Smart assign: find the right person for any unassigned role in seconds

Smart assign finds and suggests the right person for any unassigned role in seconds. It uses machine learning to find the closest role fit. Then it layers in availability within the selected timeframe. The result is a recommendation you can act on, not a long list to filter through.
This roll-out is part of a phased release, so if you don't see Smart assign in your account yet check back in a few days.
Quick staffing with less manual searching
Smart assign works wherever an unassigned role exists in your project plan: in estimates before a project is confirmed, or on live projects when plans shift.
- Staffing an approved estimate: your client signed off on the initial proposal, and you’re ready to start adding real people to your estimate. Smart assign looks across the full project timeline and shows who has the most availability in that window. You make confident staffing calls early.
- Replacing someone mid-project: a designer needs to schedule emergency leave, and you need a replacement for the same dates. Smart assign can check availability within those exact allocation dates and suggest the best match.
Getting started doesn’t require any setup
Open any project or estimate with an unassigned role. When you click to assign it, Smart assign will surface recommendations at the top. Review the suggestions, confirm the fit, and keep moving.
💡 Hint: if you haven’t set up roles in Float yet, this is the perfect time to do so. The best way to get value from Smart assign is to make sure your team’s roles and seniority levels are accurate and up to date. The better your data, the better the recommendation.
Smart assign is available to all teams, regardless of plan—because fast, efficient resourcing should be a standard for everyone.
A step closer to Float talent intelligence
What's available today is just the start. In the coming months, we'll look to expand the data points Smart assign considers: not just role fit and availability, but also the relationship between your people, their skills, and the work they deliver. That means recommendations become more precise with every update, and over time, that Smart assign will start reflecting the specific nuances and ways of working that are unique to your teams.
This release is a step toward our vision for the Float Talent Graph™: a living network that maps the relationships between your people, their skills, the work they deliver, and the results they achieve—so Resource managers can move beyond who’s available, and start resourcing for who’s right.
